Judge Sol Wieselthier – Protector of the Disabled

The Hon. Sol A. Wieselthier, a long time Social Security Disability Administrative Law Judge in the Queens, NY Office of Disability Adjudication and Review, passed away over the weekend.  He was 84 and worked until shortly before his death.

All those attorneys and claimants who appeared before Judge Wieselthier for disability hearings over the last few decades knew him as a kind and compassionate man who always gave everyone a "fair shake" in his courtroom.  He never raised his voice and was always quick with a big smile or chuckle to make nervous claimants feel at ease.  Not only will he be deeply missed  by the attorneys and colleagues who worked with him, but more importantly, by the many residents of Queens he helped.

I had the pleasure of appearing before Judge Wieselthier for over 20 years.  He was a true mensch.  Rest in Peace, Sol.

Below is the notice in the New York Times submitted by his Friends in the New York Social Security Disability Bar Association:

WIESELTHIER–Sol A. The New York Social Security Bar Association notes with deep sorrow the loss of Administrative Law Judge Sol A. Wieselthier. Judge Wieselthier was a great friend to our members and a protector of the rights of the disabled. Our condolences go out to his family. Gabriel Hermann, President Richard P. Morris, Secretary/Treasurer
