Workplace accidents: New York tree trimmer electrocuted

Employees of landscaping companies in New York have to face multiple safety hazards. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently reminded employers in this industry about the safety regulations with which they must comply. This follows the death of a tree trimmer at a private residence on Long Island. Too many lives are lost in similar workplace accidents.

Sanitation workers at high risk of suffering workplace injuries

The mining industry is known to be extremely dangerous. However, it is reported that the injury risk among sanitation workers is more than double that of miners. The New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health also says the risk of suffering fatal workplace injuries in this industry is 10 times higher than that of workers in all other industries.

Construction workers' accidents lead to criminal charges

The owner of a New York construction contracting company faces severe punishment after being indicted on multiple charges including second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. These charges are related to construction workers' accidents and violations of unemployment and workers' compensation laws. It was reported that he may be facing as many as 15 years behind bars.

Finding a doctor after a work injury can be challenging

Under New York workers' compensation law, injured workers are supposed to be able to choose their doctor if the doctor has the right Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) credentials and takes workers' comp insurance. This is not always as straightforward as it sounds, however.

Construction workers' accidents: 12-foot fall claims man's life

Too many New York construction workers lose their lives because they were not provided with appropriate protective equipment on the job. Falls from elevated positions form a significant percentage of fatal construction workers' accidents. It is alarming that many of these deaths were preventable by compliance with prescribed safety regulations.

Fatal workplace accidents: Worker crushed by falling dumpster

Losing a loved one who leaves for work in the morning and never returns is naturally an indescribable experience. Not only will the surviving family have to cope without that person's love and guidance, but the financial consequences of losing that person's income may be severe -- particularly if the deceased worker was the primary breadwinner. Workplace accidents in New York are never anticipated and always tragic.
